SIDRA BELL DANCE NEW YORK returns to Baruch Performing Arts Center with a world premiere for seven performances from June 1-5, 2016 in New York City. The award winning dance theater company is collaborating with electronic sound artist and Juilliard trained Alexey Gorokholinsky as well as resident lighting designer Amith A. Chandrashaker for an exciting live performance event at Baruch Performing Arts Center.

L O S T L A N G U A G E is an evening length abstraction that archives the stories, memories, and histories embedded in the bodies of the performers and physicalizes that stored information to illustrate a mysterious and ambiguous landscape of subtexts and images with great currency. The company has had a fantastic year of touring and educational outreach that has spanned Sweden, Slovenia, Bulgaria, San Francisco, Albany, Boston, and Pennsylvania. We are ecstatic to bring our newest work home this June.
As we embark on our 6th season at Baruch Performing Arts Center we are looking forward towards a year of expanded support and creative ventures. The company continues to garner acclaim with each new work and was recently awarded a National Dance Project Production Award from New England Foundation for the Arts. In 2016 The Boston Globe praised the company for being "inventively quirky and sensuously muscular".

COMPANY HISTORY: Sidra Bell Dance New York (SBDNY) is a boutique company that has consistently self-produced annual performance seasons in New York City to great acclaim. The Company is rapidly gaining an international profile for work that reveals aspects of the human condition through a distinctly female lens. Bell's creations have been described as, "brainy, exuberant, and audacious." (San Francisco Chronicle). The work demands both physical power and tender expressiveness from her crack ensemble of "fearless and technically honed dancers" (Vancouver's Georgia Straight).

The Company has performed extensively throughout the USA, Europe, Canada, and South America. It was named "#1 in Contemporary Dance in 2014" by the Pittsburgh Examiner, as one of ArtsATL's "Notable Dance Performances of 2012", and in the "Top 10 for Best in Dance in 2010" by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Bell's process is intuitive, collaborative, and emphasizes the integration of multiple design elements. Her work combines design, media, and fashion creating a singular vision in contemporary dance.

SIDRA BELL is a sought after educator and has won several awards. Bell has received many commissions from institutions internationally and has produced over 100 new works. Her work has been seen throughout the United States and in Denmark, France, Austria, Bulgaria, Turkey, Germany, Slovenia, China, Canada, Aruba, Korea, Brazil, and Greece. SBDNY has anextensive educational and mentorship program built on MODULE philosophy and works with institutions for dance and theater internationally with a particular emphasis on young artist development.

SBDNY was awarded a 2015 National Dance Project Award from New England Foundation for the Arts.
