Side by Side by Sondheim, a celebration of the works of Stephen Sondheim, will enjoy a limited 12-week run at the Venue Theatre in London, from April 26 - July 14, 2007, with Opening Night scheduled for Tuesday, May 1. The production will be the first major West End revival in 30 years. The show is produced by The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) producers Neil Laidlaw (NML Productions) and Melanie Herman.
Press notes state, "First seen in London in 1976, Side by Side features some of Sondheim's best known works (including collaborations with Leonard Bernstein, Richard Rodgers, Mary Rodgers and Jule Styne from classic musicals such as West Side Story, Gypsy, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, Follies, Pacific Overtures and A Little Night Music," continuing, "Side by Side by Sondheim was conceived by David Kernan, originally as a fundraiser, following a request from singer Cleo Laine and her husband John Dankworth. The show became a major hit in the UK before transferring to Broadway in 1977. It received five Tony Award nominations and it is one of the few shows to have the distinction of its entire cast being nominated for a Tony award."
