Shout! The Mod Musical will play its final performance on Sunday, December 31 at 3pm. As of that date it will have played 20 previews and 179 regular performances at the Julia Miles Theatre (424 West 55 Street). The show began previews on Tuesday, July 11 and opened on Thursday, July 27.
Shout! is slated to begin a national tour in spring 2007 with Off-Broadway Booking. Productions in Japan and Korea are also planned.
Shout! "flips through the years like a musical magazine, tracking five young women as they come of age during the liberating days of the 1960s that made England swing. It is a non-stop journey through the infectious and soulful pop anthems and ballads that made household names of stars like Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield and Lulu. Shout! uses letters to an advice columnist, true confessions, quizzes and advertisements as a frame for hits like 'To Sir With Love,' 'Downtown,' 'You Don't Have to Say You Love Me,' 'Son of A Preacher Man,' and 'Goldfinger,'" as the show is described in press notes.
"Each talented young woman in the cast is identified by the color of her costume, reflecting a composite personality: Marie-France Arcilla (Blue), Erin Crosby (Yellow), Julie Dingman Evans (Orange), Erica Schroeder (Green), and Denise Summerford (Red)."
Shout! is co-created by Phillip George and David Lowenstein, Lowenstein choreographs and George directs, with additional material by Peter Charles Morris and Phillip George. David Lowenstein choreographed Howard Crabtree's Whoop-Dee-Doo! among many other credits. The first edition of Shout! appeared on stage at the Duplex in New York in 2000 and then transferred to London's Jermyn Street Theatre where it was nominated as Best Musical by WhatsOnStage.
The design team is David Gallo (scenic design), Philip Heckman (costume design), Jason Lyons (lighting design) and Tony Meola (sound design). Musical direction, orchestrations and additional arrangements are by Bradley Vieth.
Shout! is produced by PLUS Entertainment's Victoria Lang and Pier Paolo Piccoli, Brent Peek and Mark Schwartz.
