Shout Alone Theater Company to Present CHASING LIGHT: A NEW MYTH

Now at the end of their inaugural season, Shout Alone Theater Company, the company behind the summer 2016 hit FringeNYC production of Only a Paper Moon, proudly presents CHASING LIGHT: A New Myth. Directed by Tung Jit Yang and written by Only A Paper Moon playwright Maddie Hill, CHASING LIGHT opens Thursday, April 28th at 7:30 pm. Performances run Thursday, April 28th through Sunday, May 1st at the IATI Theater. Shout Alone Theater Company is a New York-based theater company dedicated to producing exciting, raw, and fresh new work that gives voice to those underrepresented in the modern artistic community. Founded in January 2015 by Co-Artistic Directors and Texas natives Fiona Robberson and Maddie Hill, Shout Alone is dedicated to challenging audiences with intriguing new material, primarily by and about young women. Through fascinating and thought-provoking productions, ranging from themes as daring and relevant as mass school shootings to the disabled community in West Texas, Shout Alone has been the proud recipient of several rave critical reviews and sold-out and over-capacity houses over the last year. We're thrilled to produce our third and final show of our 2015-2016 season, CHASING LIGHT.

Inspired by the legend of the New York Mole People, CHASING LIGHT is the story of a young girl named Freckles, born into the dark depths of New York City's abandoned subway tunnels. After fifteen years, she wakes up to find that her mother has disappeared. Alone for the very first time, she leaves the only world she's ever known to embark on an epic journey toward the surface in search of her mother. Told through devised movement, song, and lyric choral text, CHASING LIGHT is a new myth inspired by light and the world just beneath our feet.

CHASING LIGHT is directed by Tung Jit Yang, and written by Shout Alone Theater Company Co-Artistic Director Maddie Hill. The cast features: Ashil Lee, Mackian Bauman, Phoebe Dunn, Tina Canady, Roxy Knepp, Sean Jenny, and Odera Adimorah.

The creative team for CHASING LIGHT includes lighting design by Tung Jit Yang, set design by Xinan Ran, and costumes by Lucas Olscamp.

SHOUT ALONE THEATER COMPANY was founded in January 2015 by Fiona Robberson and Maddie Hill. The company's inaugural season began in July 2015 with Only A Paper Moon, a new play written by Maddie Hill and starring Fiona Robberson, which premiered at FringeNYC's The Flamboyan at the Clemente Center to much critical acclaim. In accordance with their mission statement of "giving voice to those underrepresented in the modern artistic community," Shout Alone has since developed three original works that star unique female heroes, including a disabled West Texas girl, a female mass school shooter, and a starry-eyed young woman born in New York's subway tunnels. Shout Alone has additionally cultivated new relationships with aspiring young playwrights and artists through their monthly donation-based Curated Art Series, which allows for actors, poets, filmmakers, choreographers, and musicians to submit, workshop, and showcase new work in front of an audience of Shout Alone supporters. In their coming season, Shout Alone hopes to produce a year of both new and classic material and further develop educational programming and playwriting workshops for New York youth. With the cooperation of New York theater professionals and an exciting team of young artists, Shout Alone looks to further revitalize, reinvigorate, and reinterpret contemporary and classic theater through a fresh, youthful lens.
