Broadway's Shoshana Bean announced her debut CD, 'Superhero', will be released on Tuesday December 2nd, 2008. The first single off the release will be available on October 7th.
Shoshana Bean is best known for her inspired performance of Elphaba in Wicked, both on Broadway and for several seasons in the musical's National Tour. Her other stage credits include being a member of the Original Broadway cast of the Tony Winning musical Hairspray, the acclaimed Off-Broadway revival of Godspell and The Actors' Fund Benefit concert of Hair.
At home on the Broadway stage, she is equally comfortable in the world of R&B, as Bean has opened for Kanye West at The Hammerstein Ballroom and performed for Michael Jackson's 30th Anniversary Concert at Madison Square Garden. She gave a thrilling performance of "Ain't No Way" alongside Brian McKnight, honoring Aretha Franklin at the "Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards."
Other television appearances include performances on The Today Show, Good Morning America, MTV's Made, Martha, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and Soul Train Christmas Starfest. She also sang the National Anthem for the New York Giants, New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets.
Shoshana left New York for Los Angeles and teamed up with writer/producer Drew K (Madonna, Celine Dion, Brandy). She was determined to create a soulful sound all her own. Opting for live instruments on almost every track coupled with some slick elements of production consistent with the more modern sounds of today's R&B, it is reminiscent of old Motown while still maintaining a contemporary sensibility. Above all, it allows Bean to showcase her incredibly dynamic vocal range", explain press notes.
Bean reprised the role of Elphaba in the national tour of Wicked for a brief run in the fall of 2006. She was joined by former co-star Megan Hilty. Bean departed the touring cast on December 31, 2006. Since leaving Wicked, Bean has recorded background vocals for the film soundtracks to Hairspray as well as the Walt Disney hit Enchanted.
