Shop Talk, a continuing series of one-on-one conversations with the
people who make theatre, film, and television happen will begin Monday,
February 13, at the Drama Book Shop, 250 West 40th Street, in
Manhattan.
A co-presentation with the Lynne Thigpen/Bobo Lewis
Foundation (a non-profit organization devoted to mentoring the next
generation of Broadway professionals), Shop Talk at the Drama Book
Shop will feature such people as Judy Wilson (Casting Director for "All
My Children"), Robert LuPone (Director/Producer of MCC Theatre and
Interim Director of the New School for Drama), Elizabeth Marvel
(Broadway and television actress), Emily Mann (Artistic Director of the
McCarter Theatre) and Mel Marvin (Broadway composer and conductor).
The
connecting theme is that all have a history of working with either
Lynne Thigpen or Bobo Lewis, two of Broadway's most loved actresses,
both of whom were devoted to New York City and the theatre community.
Lynne Thigpen won a Tony Award for her performance in Wendy
Wasserstein's An American Daughter and was nominated for a Tony for
her performance in the musical Tintypes (for which Mel Marvin was the
musical conductor). Bobo Lewis' career spanned over 5 decades from New
York to Hollywood. She received a Drama Desk Award for her performance
in Broadway's Working. Her other stage credits include 42nd Street
and The Women. Her film credits include It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World
and One True Thing. She was Thigpen's close friend and mentor.
Shop Talk evenings will be reminiscent of "Inside Actor's Studio" but with a much more intimate and immediate setting.
