Shindle Sings Lowdermilk at the Duplex, July 18

Kate Shindle will perform at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre (61 Christopher St.) on Monday, July 18th at 7 PM.  As part of the Duplex' Broadway Downtown series, the concert will feature Shindle singing exclusively from the Brian Lowdermilk songbook.

Shindle and Lowdermilk collaborated on his The Woman Upstairs, in which she played Kassan.  Shindle's Broadway credits include Broadway credits include Cabaret (Sally Bowles, also national tour) and Jekyll &Hyde (Lucy). In addition to The Woman Upstairs, her NYC appearances include A Midsummer Night's Dream (Helena), and the World AIDS Day concerts of Children of Eden (Yonah, NY premiere) and Pippin (Leading Player). Regional credits include After the Fall (Maggie) at the Alley, Himself and Nora (Nora Barnacle) at the Old Globe, First Lady Suite (Amelia Earhart, west coast premiere), Jekyll and Hyde in Concert, The Mousetrap (Miss Casewell), The Last Five Years (Cathy), Gypsy (Louise) and Into the Woods (Witch).  Her recordings include Till Today (solo), First Lady Suite (premiere cast recording), Christmases to Come, and the soon-to-be-released studio album of Dracula.  A former Miss America, Shindle is currently penning a novelization of her experiences called Crown Chasers.

Composer/lyricist Lowdermilk is also a music director, arranger, vocal coach and pianist who has garnered a Richard Rodgers Award, an Alan Menken Award and a Jonathan Larson Memorial Fellowship at the Dramatists Guild.  The Woman Upstairs had a reading at North Shore Music Theatre as a selection of the 2004 Birth of a Musical Festival, and a workshop at the 47th Street Theatre as a selection of the 2004 New York Musical Theatre Festival. RED, a retelling of the story of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, premiered at the Pittsburgh Playhouse in the fall of 2003 to strong reviews.  Other works include The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown, a one-act musical produced in readings as The Wheel at North Shore Music Theatre, Suffolk University, and the York Theatre Company, Battleship Ticonderoga, a ten-minute musical and Cellular Passion, first-place winner of the Philadelphia Young Playwright's Festival.

Broadway Downtown was launched in January, 2005, to showcase Broadway performers singing in an intimate venue. Past participants in the series have included Judy Blazer (Titanic), Kristy Cates (Wicked), Darius DeHaas (Marie Christine), Barrett Foa (Avenue Q), Karen Mason (Mamma Mia!), Sally Mayes (Urban Cowboy), Christiane Noll (Jekyll & Hyde) and Barbara Walsh (Falsettos).

The Duplex can be reached by taking the 1,9 subway to Sheridan Square, or the A,C,E,B,D,F,Q to west 4th St.
