Brooke Shields recently spoke with TimeOutNY Kids about her new children's book, It's the Best Day Ever, Dad!, and in the interview, the actress spoke of her family and diverse career.
The Lipstick Jungle star chatted about her daughters Rowan, 5, and Grier, 3, saying, "like all little girls, there is a theatrical element to them. They love singing and dancing and all of that, but I don't think they have that hankering. They know I work so hard, and they wouldn't have the patience! Anyway, I won't let my children join the industry until they've graduated from college. They need a degree, and then at that point I'll help them do whatever they want."
Shields, who has appeared on Broadway in Cabaret, Wonderful Town, to name but a few, said she does long for a return to Broadway, adding "I think about it practically every day. My only prerequisite now is that I want to originate a role, rather than replace another actress. I'm just ready to be with a show from the beginning."
When asked which of her projects in her diverse career she would say is her favorite, the actress said, "Two stick out for me the most: Suddenly Susan and the musical Wonderful Town. I was just completely confident and uninhibited in both of them. I adore doing comedy, and no matter how hard they were, I felt that I was on my game in both of those. They were pure joy."
Shields will read from It's the Best Day Ever, Dad! on Wed Apr 22 at 6:30pm at Barnes & Noble in Tribeca.
