Sheri Sanders is a force of nature and when it comes to succeeding in the pop/rock genre of musical theatre, she wrote the book, literally.

To celebrate the release of her new book Rock the Audition: How to Prepare For and Get Cast in Rock Musicals (Hal Leonard Books, May 24th) Sheri will performing in concert at New World Stages (340 W. 50th Street) on the evening of the book's release - May 24th at 8:00pm. Sheri will jam with a 5 piece band led by Wendy Bobbit Cavett, the musical director of Mamma Mia!, and share the influence pop, rock, R&B, disco, and folk has had on her with her own unique theatricality. DJ Salisbury will direct. A book signing party will immediately follow the concert. All proceeds for the concert benefit ASTEP - Artists Striving To End Poverty.

Rock the Audition is the first book written on how to audition for rock musicals, and outlines what it takes for the actor/singer to succeed. Sheri interviews prominent members of the Broadway theater community, from Bernie Telsey and Jay Binder to Steven Oremus, Andy Blankenbuehler, Kerry Butler and Alex Lacamoire. Sheri gives the aspiring performer the proper tools to successfully audition for every genre of rock musical on Broadway.

In the concert, Sheri will employ many of the techniques that she covers in the book - from how to pick songs that create a dramatic arc and create appropriate cuts and arrangements, to successfully communicating the feel of a song to a pianist, and truly understanding the vocal styles of different genres and how the styles changed over time to convey the feeling of a song.

Sheri had 20+ years behind her as an actor when she noticed that rock and pop musicals were beginning to dominate Broadway, so she piloted her very first Rock The Audition class at Pace University. Sheri was asked to create the pilot episode of MY TIME, a new reality TV show for the Oprah Winfrey Network, which airs in late April, early May.
