ROCK THE AUDITION - IN CONCERT, created and performed by Sheri Sanders, is set to make its world premiere at the 2011 New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) for three performances only: October 11th, 12th and 13th at TBG Theater, 312 West 36th Street (between Eighth & Ninth Ave.)
In this riveting musical evening, acclaimed actor and teacher Sheri Sanders offers an exclusive preview of the rock concert that will take her around the country on tour with her Hal Leonard published book, Rock The Audition, How to Prepare for and Get Cast in Rock Musicals. ROCK THE AUDITION - IN CONCERT is a captivating journey through the decades of rock music and pop culture, and its influence on Sheri as a person and an artist. Brimming with dexterity and wit, her concert arrives as the timely answer to the wedding of rock music and contemporary musical theatre. ROCK THE AUDITION - IN CONCERT is directed by DJ Salisbury, with music direction by Wendy Bobbitt Cavett.
Sheri Sanders has had success performing roles from channeling the late Kitty Genovese in The Screams of Kitty Genovese (NYMF), to playing Little Becky Two Shoes in the National Tour of Urinetown. In between, she's played a hippie in both HAIR with Encores! and in Kerrigan-Lowdermilk's The Woman Upstairs (NYMF), a revolutionary Jew on the lower east side during the depression (Goodbye and Good Luck, The York), a loony maid in turn of the century Northern England (Tom Jones, NYMF), and had the honor of interpreting Laura Nyro's music twice in 10 years. She's also appeared as Georgie in three productions of The Full Monty, Mme. Squirrel in Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas at Goodspeed, and spent three summers with Michael Bush at the O'Neill Center. Sheri piloted her masterclass, Rock The Audition, at Pace University and was asked to create the pilot episode of the reality TV show "My Time" on The Oprah Winfrey Network. Sheri was then immediately invited by Hal Leonard books to be the first person ever to write a book on auditioning for rock musicals. Sheri's students have been found on Broadway, in national tours and regional companies of Rock of Ages, Wonderland, Sister Act, Mamma Mia!, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, American Idiot, Spring Awakening, Wicked, The Wedding Singer, Hairspray, Legally Blonde, Rent, Shout, and Fat Camp. ROCK THE AUDITION is about to embark on a worldwide tour to promote Sheri's book, and teach teachers and their students how to holistically embody the essence of the rock musical they are auditioning for.
