The Women of New York's Shakespeare Anyone? are busting out at the seams in their latest show - UNCORSETED. The project is an exciting selection of scenes and pieces from Shakespeare's canon that explore Shakespeare's take on women. UNCORSETED, which opens on Sunday, June 23 at 8pm and plays Sunday, June 30 as well, begins with live music followed by some sassy Shakespeare. Shakespeare Anyone? is a project of Generous Company.
"We're very excited to have a couple of firsts this time around," commented Co-Artistic Director Shad Ramsey. "It's our first all-female show and our first time taking Shakespeare Anyone? to Astoria." Co-Producers Annie Paul and Brooke M. Haney met two years ago when they both performed their first show with Shakespeare Anyone?, Love, Lust and the Green Eyed Monster. "When Shad asked me to consider producing, I knew I wanted do it if Annie would do it with me" said Haney. "We were fascinated with the idea of exploring how Shakespeare viewed women," added Paul. "Is he for us or against us?" Haney and Paul, who both act in the show, cast Aubrey Saverino and Leigh Williams to round out the ensemble.
