Shadowbox Galleries Announce Current and Upcoming Artists

Shadowbox Live has long been committed to support art and artists within their community. The Shadowbox Galleries, which started as a way to showcase one artist at a time, has become an integral part of that mission. Since bringing on a Curator, Amy Ivanhoff, the project has grown even more. The Galleries are currently showing the work of six artists, with several more coming up soon.

"It's become an amazing part of our patron experience," says Amy Lay, Art Director for Shadowbox Live. "As they wait in the Backstage Bistro, they can wander around and view the artwork. Or they can walk the Gallery Hallway in the theater before or after a show. And now with the addition of more artists, it's becoming a true gallery."

Currently showing through Sept 30:

Roger Williams - Williams has been a staple in the Columbus arts scene for decades. He calls himself a "Deconstructive Artist," and his paintings have been described as articulated formal art with layers and irreverent overlaps.

Will Shively - Another major figure in the local arts scene, Shively has been photographing in and around Columbus for four decades. With clients ranging from Abercrombie to BalletMet, he uses film to create impressionistic "paintings" and expand the boundaries of conventional photography.

Buzz Crisafulli - Crisafulli defines the theme behind his photographs as "Extraordinary Ordinary," that is, finding something beautiful and interesting in objects and places people take for granted. In addition to being able to view his photography, you can see Crisafulli himself playing bass on the Shadowbox Live stage.

Jill Hurley - Hurley's work began as a series of color studies, painting on bright colored backgrounds. Her paintings transformed using pure raw color in layers to create form. She considers them to be much like landscapes, except with portraits as the subject matter.

Ernest Wehausen - Wehausen believes the essence of his art and photography is making visual sense of his world, knowing that everyone sees the same objects but views them differently. His images are a result of his visual explorations with each one representing an unique moment and experience.

Dwaine MacDonald - MacDonald grew up in Wapakoneta, Ohio, and after graduating with a Fine Arts degree from The Ohio State University, he now resides in German Village. His paintings vary in disciplines, as MacDonald enjoys the fun of constant learning and exploring. He also works as a commercial and residential muralist.

Upcoming showings:

Gail Larned - Larned creates flowers and dioramas in monumental scale to bring an element of natural beauty and child-like wonder to the viewer. She believes that the suspension of the familiar allows one to be transported to another reality - much like a feeling of Alice in Wonderland. Larned's work will show Sept 27 - Nov 12.

Jen Etegen - Interesting and sudden juxtapositions resonate in Etegen's artwork. Nature/Culture, Sacred/Profane, and Rural/Urban are underlying currents that continue to agitate and energize her aesthetic. Her work often depicts family dynamics and spans cultures and eras. Etegen's work will show Sept 30 - Nov 12.
