Join The Segal Center for an all-day celebration of the Dutch Artist: Adelheid Roosen, recipient of the League of Professional Women's 2017 Gilder/Coigney International Theatre Award.

"Living in the divided nation we are in 2017, we may look to Adelheid to teach us how to breach the tribal divides between 'our people' and 'those people' and remind us that we are all humans, who suffer and celebrate with the same living spirit."- Linda Chapman, Associate Artistic Director, NY Theatre Workshop

Adelheid Roosen's work is best described as multidimensional social sculpture. Utilizing primarily theatrical methods, she creates performances and installations in places of great social vulnerability. Roosen's work combines theatrical practice with a deep connection to community. Her 'adoption technique', in which players and writers are 'adopted' by members of refugee and immigrant communities for a two-week period, enable in-depth communication, and an intimate connection to collective life stories. Roosen prioritizes discovering and identifying 'the other' at all levels-culturally, geographically, socially, intellectually. She then uses this technique to develop theatrical performance pieces that promote empathy and understanding.
