Two jazz mavericks - the pianist Mark Berman (who can be heard on the theme song of the HBO series Sex and the City) and singer Ken Ard (who performed on Broadway in Cats, Starlight Express, and Smokey Joe's Cafe) invite you to join them for a unique cabaret evening at Don't Tell Mama, one of the NYC's oldest and grandest old-school speakeasies. In an intimate concert with surprise special guests, they present jazz standards the way they should be heard - spontaneous, heartfelt, and moody. Produced by Momentum Artists in association with ARTS-NY, the show is a part of AirBnB's new Intimate Concert Experiences, hosted by New Yorkers who know best what the city has to offer. Mark Berman is a renowned pianist, composer, and music producer whose piano playing can be heard on the theme song of the HBO series Sex and the City (He was even featured in an episode!) Mark collaborated with the proverbial who's who of jazz, pop and rock: Aretha Franklin, Carole King, Hugh Jackman, Chita Rivera, and many others. He is also a powerful presence on Broadway, where he's conducted and played lead piano in Rent, Smokey Joes Cafe, Bullets Over Broadway, The Boy from Oz, Hairspray, 42nd Street, Radio City Spring Spectacular, Aida, The Color Purple, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, and Spider-Man.
Ken Ard is an American singer, dancer, choreographer and actor. Born in Oakland, California, he grew up in a home visited by such jazz greats as Joe Williams, Paul Chambers, and Carmen McRae. At age 17 Ard started performing with Oakland and San Francisco Ballets. He later moved to NYC and took principal roles on Broadway in Cats, Starlight Express, Song and Dance, Jelly's Last Jam and Smokey Joe's Cafe.
