The Second Annual Manhattan Wonderwalk is a 14-hour walk of the island of Manhattan. It will take place Saturday, September 11th, 2010.
The Manhattan Wonderwalk begins at 10am at the northwestern tip of Manhattan (think Cloisters), and ends in the middle of The Brooklyn Bridge at midnight. Along the way there will be performances, camaraderie and the occasional legitimate tour guide. The walk is designed to encourage looking at the Island of Manhattan as an ever-changing work of art.
The Manhattan Wonderwalk follows a carefully constructed, secret map that is available after one buys a $20 ticket to the event. (Children under 12 walk for free!) For tickets, go to:
themanhattanwonderwalk.com.
Groups are encouraged to attend, but each individual must purchase a ticket/have their own map. The map will not be revealed until two days before the walk. It is not necessary to walk the entire walk; the map will have locations and times for when the walk will reach each spot--so anyone who has a map will be able to find the walk at any given point during the day.
The Manhattan Wonderwalk is an incredible, collaborative ritual as well as a fundraising event for The Secret City an Obie Award winning arts organization that hosts a monthly service for artists that is part salon/part ceremony/part show. Each service has a different theme and features live performance, presentation and original work. The Secret City blog:
