Second Stage Theatre has shuffled the schedule for its upcoming 2006-2007 season. In addition, Tripp Cullman has been announced to helm the New York premiere of Terrence McNally's Some Men and Rebecca Taichman will do the same for Theresa Rebeck's The Scene.
As previously announced, the season will launch with a revival of Eric Bogosian's play SubUrbia, featuring a starry cast that includes Kieran Culkin (After Ashley, The Moment When), Diksha Basu, Jessica Capshaw (Fat Pig), Michael Esper (Manic Flight Reaction), Halley Feiffer, Kelli Garner (Dog Sees God), Daniel Eric Gold (The Paris Letter), Manu Narayan (Bombay Dreams), and Peter Scanavino (Shining City). Directed by Jo Bonney (Some Girl(s), A Soldier's Play), it will begin previews on September 6th for a September 28th opening. It will run through October 29th.
"Eric Bogosian's groundbreaking and bitterly funny play subUrbia examines a day in the life of seven rootless young Americans who gather in the parking lot of a Pakistani family's convenience store," state press notes. The play, which premiered at Lincoln Center Theatre in 1994, will be updated for the production.
Barrymore Award-winner Taichman (Green Violin in Philadelphia) will helm The Scene, a new play by Rebeck (The Family of Mann, Spike Heels). Originally announced to begin previews in February of 2007, it will now start its run on December 12th and open on January 11th. "Using the surreal world of Manhattan party-goers as its background, The Scene is a shrewd and bitter comedy about the empty narcissism of American pop culture."
Some Men, by McNally (Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, Master Class) will now begin previews on February 23rd and open in mid-March of 2007. The production was previously announced to begin previews in November of 2006. Cullman (Swimming in the Shallows, Dog Sees God) is set to direct the play. "In Some Men, a new play with music, McNally highlights the moments when guests, gathered together at a gay wedding ceremony, found true love in their own lives and celebrates the century of change that has brought them to this point."A fourth play will be announced.
