As first reported on Deadline.com, Broadway star Sebastian Arcelus has joined the cast of Netflix's upcoming HOUSE OF CARDS. The actor joins previously announced cast members Kevin Spacey, Michael Gill, Robin Wright and Corey Stoll on the political drama produced by David Fincher.
Arcelus will portray newspaper editor Lucas Goodwin on the show which is scheduled to premiere next year. Netflix has currently greenlit 26 episodes which will air over two seasons. HOUSE OF CARDS is based on a novel by Michael Dobbs as well as the UK series of the same name which aired in 1990.
Spacey will star as Rep. Frank Underwood, described as "the House of Representatives Majority Whip who devises a scheme to bring down the new president and take the Oval Office for himself after being passed over for Secretary of State." Gill will portray President Garrett Walker, Wright plays Underwood's wife and Stoll plays Sakina Jaffrey as the White House Chief of Staff. Other cast members include Kate Mara, Wass Stevens, Constance Zimmer, Mahershala Ali, Jayne Atkinson and Sandrine Holt.
Sebastian Arcelus starred in ELF on Broadway. His other theater credits include Rent, first as Roger and then as a swing, covering the male ensemble roles as well as Mark and Roger. He also starred as Jan in the original cast of Good Vibrations. Arcelus played the role of Fiyero on the US national tour of Wicked in 2006 and then in the Broadway production. He starred as Bob Gaudio in Broadway's Jersey Boys.
