OPEN CALL FOR CURATORIAL FELLOW, APPLICATION DEADLINE: MAY 9, 2017

Emerging curators are invited to apply to the position of SculptureCenter Curatorial Fellow. The Curatorial Fellow organizes SculptureCenter's annual In Practice exhibition, culled from an open call for artists. The Curatorial Fellow will participate in the open call review and receive guidance from SculptureCenter's Curators as they develop an exhibition of commissioned works for SculptureCenter, scheduled to open in early 2018.

The Curatorial Fellow will gain hands-on experience in a museum setting and have the opportunity to collaborate with SculptureCenter's curatorial staff in the conceptualization and realization of the exhibition. Duties will include: Participating in the review process for artist submissions; conducting studio visits with all artists selected as open-call finalists; conceiving of an organizing exhibition concept; creating a proposal for review and approval by SculptureCenter curatorial staff; working with selected artists on the finalization of their projects; participating in the installation process; and writing a press release text and other didactics.

The Curatorial Fellow will work closely with SculptureCenter curatorial staff on all aspects of the proposal and organization process and will report to SculptureCenter's Curator. The Curatorial Fellow is expected to work independently in communication with SculptureCenter curatorial staff from August 2017 through the exhibition period. This is a project-based fellowship and requires periodic on-site meetings. The Curatorial Fellow must have excellent communication skills, organizational ability, and attentiveness to deadlines. The Curatorial Fellow will receive a stipend of $2,000.

How To Apply

Interested curators are asked to submit a one-page cover letter indicating their interest and relevant experience, resume, three writing samples, and two professional references to: jobs@sculpture-center.org. Please use the subject heading: Curatorial Fellow Application.

SculptureCenter curatorial staff will review all application materials and invite select candidates for in-person interviews in May/June. Applicants should have at least three years of curatorial experience and must reside in New York City.
