Sculpture Center to Host Second Annual LIC Block Party, 8/3

SculptureCenter has announced the second annual LIC Block Party, presented with the Purves Street Block Association, featuring art and entertainment for all ages. SculptureCenter welcomes guests free of charge on August 3 from noon to 5 p.m.

The LIC Block Party features artist-led activities, live music and performances, an artist market showcasing affordable and functional art and objects, and family-friendly food options from local restaurants including the Burger Garage,LIC Market, Manducatis Rustica, Sage General Store, and Soho Snacks.

Activities include: a social media photo booth with Bryan Zanisnik, a carnival game created by Denise Kupferschmidt and Jeffrey Tranchell, donut-making with Julia Sherman, third eye face painting withStephanie Dodes, a PON-A-THON with Abby Walton and Travis Boyer, coffee ground readings by Faten Kanaan, a makeover tent with HiChristina!, balloon twisting by Ross Moreno, thaumatrope making with theMuseum of the Moving Image, collaborative creating with The Sketchbook Project, rock transformations with the Noguchi Museum, mixed-media sculpture making with Materials for the Arts, and Jacques Louis Vidal's consultation center for the creation of contracts between partners, children and their guardians, and owners and their pets...with bubbles.

SculptureCenter's own Frederick Janka will emcee a performance program featuring DJ Max McFerren, Ross Moreno, the LIC YMCA Bollywood dancers, Faten Kanaan, Urban Technology, and HARIBO.

SculptureCenter has invited a selection of artists to sell their work directly to the public. Participating artists will receive 100% of the proceeds. The Artist Market will feature clothing, drawings, prints, jewelry, publications, records, sculptures, t-shirts, zines, and more by: Adam Kurtz, Court Square Gallery, Erin Considine,FAUX/real, Brian Faucette, Fort Makers, Fuse Works, Hanna Sandin, Julie Thevenot, Kim Hennessy,Miniature Garden publications, n+1, Paper Monument, Paul Branca, Personal Desire Propaganda (Blake Carrington, Grayson Cox, and Asa Gauen), Raul De Nieves, Swill Children, and Yoko Inoue.

The Purves Street Block Association
Purves Street is one block long and is located at the top of 43rd Avenue at Jackson Avenue. Over 100 residents have joined with SculptureCenter and nearby businesses to focus on neighborhood improvement and quality of life in our corner of Long Island City.
