The multicultural subjects presented by solo artists at the festival help define the collection. Last season, artists from six continents brought solo pieces to Theatre Row, where the festival is a resident company. Published scripts included adaptations of Shakespeare's writings, memoir pieces, as well as avant-garde movement-based scripts. Readers may access the entire collection or individual plays. United Solo Collections from previous festival seasons are also available online at Indie Theater Now.
Publication through Indie Theater Now gives playwrights the opportunity to share their works with young theatre artists and professionals. In the past, excerpts from United Solo Collections were selected for a public performance developed and presented at Williams College. Other plays led to invitations for the original cast to present their works at colleges ("Beyond Words" by Bill Bowers), and theatres both nationally ("Clutter" by Nancy Redman) and abroad ("Motswana" by Donald Molosi and "The Echoes..." by Anthony Nikolchev).
Artists interested in participating in the United Solo Theatre Festival this year are encouraged to submit their solo works by March 3, 2014. Selected shows will be presented at Theatre Row this fall, and will be considered for the next collection published by Indie Theater Now. More information about the submission process may be found at the Festival's website: www.unitedsolo.org.
