Each season, Broadway champions works both new and old, welcoming a fresh crop of plays from playwrights both at home and abroad. Their works enrapture audiences, dazzling in their relevance, sparkling in their spectacle, and often challenging in their complexity.
But among these theatrical fresh faces and established stalwarts, a handful of playwrights see their works produced and revived more than most. Audiences return again and again to see what new tales these luminaries have up their sleeve, or to simply to reacquaint themselves with old favorites.
Over the years (and in some cases, centuries- looking at you, Shakespeare) the works of these talented scribes not only routinely delight audiences, but critics and voting bodies as well. Their staying power proves time and again that their works can produce Great Performances, take on new settings, communicate timely messages, adapt to new angles, and rack up awards just as well as the world premieres can.
Below, we've rounded up Broadway's most produced playwrights of the past decade. See who made the cut!
