The York Theatre Company has announced its cast for Take Me Along, the first show in its new season of its 'Musicals in Mufti' series -- the York's acclaimed series of musical theatre gems in staged concert performances.

'Mufti' (pronounced MUFF' tee) means "in street clothes; without the usual trappings."  This season is made up of shows with books by Joseph Stein and features three of his rarely performed shows: Take Me Along, Carmelina and Plain & Fancy.

Take Me Along features a book by Stein and Robert Russell, playing October 13, 14, and 15.   Based on the play Ah, Wilderness! by Eugene O'Neill, Take Me Along has music and lyrics by Bob Merrill and was produced by David Merrick.  It opened on October 22, 1959 at the Shubert Theatre and ran for 448 performances.

"Wings" star David Schramm, in the role of Sid Davis, will lead a cast that also includes: Susan Bigelow (Lily Miller), Melissa Bohon, Ken Cavett, Matthew Crowle, Ryan Driscoll, Jay Aubrey Jones, Jacob Levy, Lorinda Lisitza, Robyne Parrish, Andrew Rasmussen, Deborah Jean Templin, and Nick Wyman (Nat Miller).  Michael Montel directs.

Take Me Along "takes place in Centerville, Connecticut in 1906.  Nat Miller, publisher of the Centerville Globe newspaper, wins a fire engine for his idyllic town. His pride is tarnished however, when one of his advertisers condemns him because of the suggestive poetry that his son Robert has been reading to the advertiser's daughter. Amidst all this is the story of the ne'er-do-well brother-in-law Sid Davis trying to win the heart of a woman who demands only that he change his drunken ways and become sober once and for all.  This delightful musical treat is a turn-of-the-century tale of fathers and sons, husbands and wives, and the true measure of a man's greatness," as York notes describe the show.

There will also be a special event with Librettist/Playwright Joseph Stein, who will sit down with Producing Artistic Director Jim Morgan for an informal one-on-one chat about his writing career on October 10th at 7 PM.  A casual reception will follow.  Admission is $10; please call 212-935-5824 x21 to reserve a seat.

For ticket information visit www.yorktheatre.org or call 212-935-5820.  The York Theatre Company is located in Saint Peter's Theatre, on 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue.
