The School of the International Center of Photography (1114 Avenue of the Americas at 43rd Street) present "Of Bodies and Other Things," on view in the Rita K. Hillman Education Gallery at the school. From June 26th through August 15th, the exhibition presents the work of eighty-five artists from over thirty countries who participated in the General Studies in Photography and Documentary Photography & Photojournalism full-time student programs at ICP. There will be an opening reception on Friday, June 25th from 6pm–9pm. The exhibition on view, daily, from 10am–6pm.
Bodies are portrayed as both the sites containing people's innermost feelings and as the façades people present to the outside world. Images of inhabited space serve as a corollary to the body-themed show. These images range from a gentleman's club to the bedrooms of women seeking a private space and from suburban dystopia to urban landscapes of isolation. The curators explain that the emphasis on the locations of bodies "shows how we consider space an extension of ourselves."
Curated by Marina Berio, Chair of the General Studies in Photography Program, and Alison Morley, Chair of the Documentary Photography & Photojournalism Program, the exhibition contains photographs, videos, multimedia, and web projects that represent a small sample of the work created by each of the students during the year-long programs. The variety of styles is a testimony to each student's unique voice. For further information, please contact ICP Education at 212.857.0001 or visit www.icp.org.
