Thomas Strønen and his ensemble Time is a Blind Guide join us this Thursday with its "melodic music with a twist." A chamber music ensemble that draws lines from traditional folk music to contemporary music, performed by some of Europe's leading jazz musicians, the quintet combines three elements: a string trio, a piano trio, and a percussion ensemble.

Featuring Thomas Strønen on drums and compositions, Ayumi Tanaka on piana, Håkon Aase on violin, Leo Svensson Sander on cello, and Mats Eilertsen on bass, Time is a Blind Guide creates a delicate balance to challenge and captivate its audience with textures, sounds, and beautiful melodies.

"Melodically, it's wholesome, almost folky in atmosphere, but there is also a dense rhythmic complexity that provides a balancing darkness." -Cormac Larkin, The Irish Times

Time is a Blind Guide is a group founded by Thomas Strønen with his release of the album of the same name in July 2015, recorded at Oslo's Rainbow Studio. This Norwegian-British ensemble is an all-acoustic group that was built to include a number of overlapping musical sub-groups, including an enhanced piano trio, a string group with violin, cello, and bass, as well as drums and percussion. In the spring of 2017, the ensemble recorded their new album Lucas at the Radio Auditorium RSI in Lugano with Manfred Eicher, to be released by ECM in early 2018.
