Savannah Repertory Theatre has introduced their Director of New Works Michael Jacinto and Associate Director of New Works, LaDonna Ouedraogo.
Savannah Repertory Theatre has introduced their Director of New Works Michael Jacinto and Associate Director of New Works, LaDonna Ouedraogo.
The Savannah Rep New Works program is dedicated to the future of theatre. The program will strive to discover new trends, new styles and new innovations, created by voices rarely heard in traditional theatre spaces. The New Works program will feature events such as roundtables, artist panels, workshops and a Fresh Works festival that will showcase new works to Savannah and surrounding communities.
Jacinto is a Director/Choreographer, currently based in Albany, N.Y. with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, and a Master of Arts from Institute of Arts Barcelona, he has extensive experience in devising new works nationally and internationally, and knows first-hand the importance of Arts education. As Savannah Rep's Director of New Works, he will continue the mission of bringing theatre to the next generation, centering underrepresented voices, and supporting early career artists. Ouedraogo hails from Savannah, Ga. with a bachelor's degree in Performance Arts focusing in Theatre from Savannah State University, she has turned her passion into her life. She prides herself in her capability to adapt and her love for learning. She's thrilled to be a part of the Savannah Rep Family.
Savannah Rep is excited for Jacinto vision and to provide a safe space for Savannah's artists to create. Jacinto said, "Within this program, not only are we focusing on playwriting, we are also focused on devising brand-new multimedia productions, implementing outside artforms. Cultivating a fresh and accessible point of view for the new generation of theatre artists and audiences". He continued, "We will establish our department as a safe space to explore BIPOC, LGBTQ, Millennial, Gen Z and the disability community's experiences. Not only will we introduce artists of diverse backgrounds, we also plan to introduce new theatre aesthetics, to inspire a wave of innovation of forward moving work".
