A saucy and visually arresting - if admittedly more than slightly BRADY BUNCH-esque - trailer for the forthcoming West End revival of William Shakespeare's hallowed comedy A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM has arrived, featuring the attractive and talented cast of the brand new, Michael Grandage-directed production.
Starring Sheridan Smith and David Walliams, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM is one of Shakespeare's most popular and oft-produced comedies, yet this Contemporary Casting is sure to give the tried and true tropes of the tale some fresh verve and vitality judging from even a preliminary look at the company as available in this new trailer.
The official introductory description of Michael Grandage's production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM is as follows: "A Midsummer Night's Dream is the famous comic play by the legendary Elizabethan playwright William Shakespeare. The play is a classic Shakespearean comedy set over five acts and focuses on themes of love, passion, magic, mistaken identity and even theatre itself. The production is one of the most widely performed of Shakespeare's back-catalog, and is a very popular choice for outdoor, seasonal productions."
Also, the synopsis is as follows: "Lysander loves Hermia and Hermia loves Lysander. Helena loves Demetrius; Demetrius used to love Helena but now loves Hermia. When Hermia's father insists she choose Demetrius as a suitor she escapes with Lysander into the surrounding forest where Oberon and Titania, the King and Queen of the Fairies are having their own battle of love. As the human and magical worlds collide mischief and chaos erupt as love at first sight proves a reality for some and makes an ass of others."
Of note, Grandage also directs Jude Law in a new production of Shakespeare's HENRY V later this season, beginning in February.
