The world’s most famous brass quintet, Canadian Brass is bringing their wildly popular holiday concert to Sarasota’s Opera House on Monday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m., performing festive favorites, from Carol of the Bells to A Charlie Brown Christmas, swinging Glenn Miller tunes, and more.
Celebrating 50 years of success, Canadian Brass has averaged two and a half full length recordings per year for a total of 138 recordings. They have received a combined total of 24 Grammy and Juno nominations and won the German Echo Award for Goldberg Variations. Most recently during the Covid era the Brass created another award-winning recording, Canadiana. The album features unique arrangements of many Canadian superstars including Joni Mitchell, k.d. lang, Bruce Cockburn, Drake and DeadMau5.
Current members include trumpet players Ashley Hall-Tighe, an internationally renowned musician, educator, certified life coach and the newest member of the Canadian Brass, and Joe Burgstaller, who has performed thousands of concerts across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and performed in front of more than 50 orchestras. Playing the horn is Jeff Nelson, who has thrilled audiences and mentored students for over thirty years and has performed concerti with orchestras on six continents. One of the most celebrated trombonists of his generation, Achilles Liarmakopoulos is the current trombonist of the Canadian Brass. And finally, tubaist & founder Chuck Daellenbach has brought music, imagination, and humor to Canadian Brass since the group was formed in 1970, playing a key role in all of the group’s ground- breaking projects.
