After a three-month submission period and over 400 play submissions from around the world, Sanguine is pleased to announce five finalists for its annual Project Playwright Festival. The audience favorite at the Festival receives a fully-produced premiere of their play in New York City as a part of Sanguine's 2018 season.
The 2018 finalists are Alexandria by Vince Gatton, Little Souvenirs by Gillian Beth Durkee, psychopsychotic by Alexa Derman, The Record Breakers by Kendall Sherwood, and The Shampoo Effect by Charlie O'Leary.
About the Festival, Artistic Director Emily Jackson says, "To celebrate five new plays, any one of which Sanguine would be proud to produce, is an invigorating and exceptional opportunity. We are happy to champion these artists and to bring fresh, vital, audience-supported work to life."
On Monday, January 15th, Sanguine Theatre Company will produce a festival evening of staged readings in New York City with excerpts of the finalists' scripts. The evening will be directed by Logan Reed. After hearing all five excerpts, the audience votes on the winning script. This winner is announced at the end of the festival evening, and their play will receive a full production in New York City as a part of Sanguine's 2018 season.
The 2018 Project Playwright Festival will be held on Monday, January 15 at Access Theater's Gallery Space (380 Broadway in New York). The event will begin at 7:00pm. Tickets are $20 and are available online via https://ppf2018.bpt.me. Tickets purchased in advance include a complimentary drink at the event.
