The Madwoman in the Volvo, Sandra Tsing Loh's "menopause memoir," has been called "scorchingly smart and funny as hell" and Loh herself as "that rare writer who is howlingly funny on the surface and subtly brilliant just beneath." Now in development as a stage production, through the Sundance Institute Theatre Program, Loh brings the madwoman to life with Leslie Kritzer and Mary Beth Peil in a staged reading at 92Y on Friday, October 10, directed by Lisa Peterson.

Sandra Tsing Loh (writer & performer) - Sandra is the author of the bestselling New York Times notable book Mother on Fire, inspired by her hit solo show of the same name, which ran seven months at 24th Street Theatre. During that time, she was named one of the 50 most influential comedians by Variety. Her other solo shows include Aliens in America and Bad Sex With Bud Kemp (both off-Broadway at Second Stage Theatre), Sugar Plum Fairy (Geffen Playhouse, Seattle Rep), and I Worry (Kennedy Center, Actor's Theatre of Louisville). Her short story, My Father's Chinese Wives, won a Pushcart Prize in 1996, and is also featured in the Norton Anthology of Modern Literature. Loh's previous books include A Year in Van Nuys, Aliens in America, Depth Takes a Holiday, and a novel, If You Lived Here,You'd Be Home By Now, which was named by the Los Angeles Times as one of the 100 best fiction books of 1998. She has been a regular commentator on NPR's Morning Edition, APM's Marketplace, and Ira Glass' This American Life. Currently, her weekly segment The Loh Life is heard on KPCC and her syndicated daily radio science minute The Loh Down on Science is heard weekly by 4 million people. A Pushcart Prize winner, MacDowell Fellow and three-time National Magazine Award nominee, her new book The Madwoman in the Volvo: My Year of Raging Hormones, based on her Best American Essay 2012 in the Atlantic Monthly on menopause, was published by W.W. Norton in May 2014.

Lisa Peterson (director) - Lisa is the co-writer of An Iliad, the OBIE and Lortel Award-winning Solo Performance that she created with Denis O'Hare, based on Homer's epic poem. In addition to many classic plays, Lisa has directed the premieres of new works by Donald Margulies, Tony Kushner, Beth Henley, Naomi Wallace, Caryl Churchill, Janusz Glowacki, Marlane Meyer, Culture Clash, Jose Rivera and many others at theaters including NYTW (OBIE for directing Light Shining in Buckinghamshire), Public, Vineyard, MTC, Primary Stages, Mark Taper Forum, La Jolla Playhouse, Guthrie, ATL, Berkeley Rep, McCarter, Arena Stage, Geffen, Hartford Stage, Seattle Rep and many more.

Leslie Kritzer (performer) - Leslie most recently finished a run in Nobody Loves You at Second Stage Theatre. Her Broadway credits include Elf (Jovie), Sondheim On Sondheim, A Catered Affair (Drama Desk nom.), Legally Blonde (Clarence Derwent Award) and Hairspray. Off-Broadway credits include The Memory Show (Transport Group), NEWSical opposite Perez Hilton, First You Dream (Kennedy Center), Every Tongue Confess (Arena Stage), Guys and Dolls (Barrington Stage), Rooms (Outer Circle Critics nom.), On the Town (Encores!), Great American Trailer Park Musical (Drama Desk nom.), Bat Boy, Godspell, Pop!, Born Yesterday, Vanities (World Premiere), Urinetown (national tour) and Fanny Brice in Funny Girl.
