RICHARD 3.5: LIGHT RUMINATIONS ON MURDER is presented by Sandglass Theater with Bob Berky and Eric Bass through August 30 at Woodstock Fringe: 2009 Festival of Theatre and Song. The show opens on August 21.
Live from the 15th century, King Richard the Third will perform 11 murders, sing 7 songs that Shakespeare never meant to write, and respond to wax puppet versions of his victims created from giant candles by his Emcee accomplice. They will dance and sing their way into your hearts through this cabaret version of Shakespeare's famous tragedy! See Richard in a rare television interview. See him recount for you (and you only) the extent of his prowess at annihilation. Shakespeare, Berky and Bass collaborate to bring you a night of blood and guts.
As Richard interacts with each of the characters he murders - the mere "puppets" in his hands to be molded as he sees fit - he learns that their spirits, once released, cannot be silenced. The relationship between the actor and the puppet begs the question: if the human seeks only the material, can the seemingly material contain true humanity?
Richard 3.5 is a collaboration between Sandglass Theater's Eric Bass and award-winning physical comedian Bob Berky.
