Feinstein's/54 Below, Broadway's Supper Club, has cast the first same sex couple to participate in Tom Jones & Harvey Schmidt's classic musical I DO! I DO! on February 14th, 2016.
Eddie Korbich and Andy Leech, a couple with long standing ties to the Broadway community, have been tapped to sing from the score of I DO! I DO!
In a statement, lyricist Jones said, "I DO! I DO! was conceived as a valentine to the joys and frustrations and ultimate deep rewards of a long and lasting marriage, no matter their sexual orientation. This being so, I am especially pleased that this celebration of the show's songs at 54 Below will be performed on Valentine's Day and by a cast of married couples, for the first time both gay and straight. A bit early perhaps, but I am already lifting my glass in a toast."
Eddie Korbich has been seen on Broadway in Sweeney Todd, Carousel, The Drowsy Chaperone, and A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. Andy Leech serves on the musical theatre faculty at AMDA in New York City.
Other real life Broadway couples in the concert will include Hunter Foster & Jen Cody, Patrick Page & Paige Davis, Charlie Franklin & Lexi Rabadi, and Clyde Alves & Robyn Hurder.
Couples reuniting from their theatrical marriages will be Baby, it's You's Beth Leavel & Adam Heller, Falsettos' Chip Zien & Barbara Walsh, The Fantasticks' Tom Jones & Rita Gardner, Rothschild & Sons' Robert Cuccioli & Glory Crampton, and The Last Five Years' AJ Holmes & Carly Hughes,
The evening will be hosted by the show's lyricist, Tom Jones (The Fantasticks)
The concert is directed by Robert W. Schneider. Joshua Zecher-Ross is the evening's musical director.
Audiences can expect to hear such classics as "My Cup Runneth Over," "When The Kids Get Married," and "Flaming Agnes," plus a few hidden treasures from the trunk of Jones & Schmidt.
