Dégagé, Coupé, Glissade, Croisé... These are not only Steps in Ballet, but also Techniques of the Blade. Pointwork can be done with a Rapier as well as a Point Shoe. Translating the choreography of the duel to the language of ballet, this Benefit Performance for Salon/Sanctuary Concerts will feature the world premiere of a fiery and intimate pas de deux created for Jared Angle and Megan LeCrone, as well as a live presentation of the historically-based, fiercely beautiful sword fight (performed by a male and female fighter), upon which the ballet is based.
Music for the program, from the award-winning period instrument ensemble THE SEBASTIANS, will include Heinrich Ignaz von Biber (1644 - 1704) Battaglia à 10 in D Major; Johann Heinrich Schmelzer (1620 - 1680) Balletto for Strings and Continuo in G"DieFechtschule"; Selected works of GF Handel (1685 - 1759).
Program Concept by Erica Gould, Jared Angle, and Jessica Gould. Stage Direction & Fight Choreography by Erica Gould.
A limited number of benefit tickets will be available for an Intimate Post-Performance Dinner Reception With the Artists.
The performance will take place at the Liederkranz Club, founded in 1847 for the celebration of German musical culture. The club's elegant townhouse, originally the home of philanthropist Henry Phipps, provides the ideal intimate salon setting for the evening.

Salon/Sanctuary Concerts has been praised by Time Out NY for "impeccably curated early-music performances in intimate historical venues," and by Seen and Heard International: "It is a rare occurrence at any concert or opera when every possible aspect of the performance experience succeeds completely. I am not simply referring to the musicians, concert hall or instruments but to the gestalt: the unified whole that makes the sum greater than all of its parts." Founded by Artistic Director Jessica Gould in 2009, Salon/Sanctuary Concerts offers the special chance to hear pre-Romantic music in intimate venues that complement the historical context of the repertoire. Pleased to present special projects that cast a light on historical issues through the prism of music, Salon/Sanctuary takes pride in many special interdisciplinary performances featuring luminaries from the worlds of opera, theater, film, and dance. The series has garnered critical praise for its innovative programming, and continues to attract a diverse audience for its pathbreaking offerings. www.salonsanctuaryconcerts.org
