WWD reported that according to "sources" Saks Fifth Avenue is very close to signing a deal to open it's second New York City location. The store would be in lower Manhattan on Brookfield Place (formerly the World Financial Center), between Vesey Street and the Hudson River.

WWD also shared this quote, "Saks will anchor Brookfield Place, making it the undisputable luxury destination downtown," said the source.

Brookfield Place has already announced high end tenants like Ferragamo, Michael Kors, Diane von Furstenberg and Hérmes. Adding a large luxury department store like Saks will make it the new, go-to shopping spot.

It was also revealed that Saks has plans to open a Saks Off 5th outlet at the Westfield World Trade Center, which is right near the downtown Century21. This will be the first time their discount store has come into any of the five boroughs!

About Brookfield Place:

Brookfield Place, located on the Hudson River waterfront in Lower Manhattan, encompasses more than eight million square feet of premier office space within the five unique copper-crowned granite and glass towers designed by Cesar Pelli. One of New York City's premier business addresses, Brookfield Place and its grand centerpiece, the 10-story glass pavilion Winter Garden, features extensive public spaces, dozens of shops and restaurants, and a stunning outdoor waterfront esplanade. The Winter Garden and its adjacent outdoor plaza are celebrated venues for both Private functions as well as Brookfield's Arts & Events program, which features everything from unique art installations and exhibits to musical and cultural performances, offered to the public year-round and free-of-charge.
