Sacred Music in a Sacred Space presents beloved male chorus Chanticleer in their annual NYC holiday performances of A Chanticleer Christmas on December 4 & 6.

New York City's holiday season reaches a magnificent crescendo when two of its mainstays -Chanticleer and the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola-team up to double your Christmas joy. Widely considered the gold standard of male choruses, the ensemble brings "A Chanticleer Christmas" to the church (980 Park Avenue between 83rd and 84th Streets) for two dates: Friday, December 4 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, December 6 at 4:00 pm.

Grammy-award winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer has become as synonymous with Christmas as it is with impeccable musicality and delightful, innovative performances. Their annual A Chanticleer Christmas is a highly sought-after ticket each year and is performed in venues coast-to-coast celebrating the wonder of the holiday with a charming blend of traditional carols, medieval and Renaissance sacred works, and new seasonal gems.

Sacred Music in a Sacred Space Concerts at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola once again presents A Chanticleer Christmas as part of its acclaimed Christmas holiday programming. The majestic Church of St. Ignatius Loyola delivers a stunning feast for the eyes and the ears. The church's majestic arches and intricate frescoes, coupled with Chanticleer's heavenly voices, provide an ethereal treat during this holiday season. The warmth and profundity of A Chanticleer Christmas reveal themselves in a telling of the Christmas story in Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony, traditional carols, Franz Biebl's "Ave Maria" (Chanticleer's most requested Christmas selection) and Chanticleer's traditional medley of spirituals.

A Chanticleer Christmas provides the perfect complement to the Sacred Music in a Sacred Space's music offerings in December including the exultant annual Christmas concert Sing We Noel on Sunday, December 13 at 3:00 pm and Sunday, December 20 at 3:00 pm featuring the Choirs and Orchestra of St. Ignatius Loyola. Called "the world's reigning male chorus" by The New Yorker magazine, the San Francisco based GRAMMY award-winning ensemble Chanticleer celebrates its 38th season in 2015-16, performing in the United States, Germany, Austria, Italy, Hong Kong, Singapore, Macao, the People's Republic of China. Chanticleer will also represent the United States at the biannual Festival de las Chiquitas in Bolivia, celebrating the rich musical heritage of the South American missions. Praised by the San Francisco Chronicle for their "tonal luxuriance and crisply etched clarity," Chanticleer is known around the world as "an orchestra of voices" for the seamless blend of its twelve male voices ranging from soprano to bass and its original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz and popular genres, as well as contemporary composition.

Chanticleer's 27-concert 2015-16 Bay Area Season will be the first under the direction of newly appointed Music Director William Fred Scott. The season opened in September with Over the Moon featuring a world premiere by Nico Muhly, music by Gustav Mahler, Jaakko Mäntyjäarvi, Mason Bates, Stephen Paulus, Orlando di Lasso, Claudio Monteverdi, Josquin Desprez and others. A Chanticleer Christmas is in high demand at the Christmas season with performances from coast-to-coast in venues including New York's St. Ignatius Loyola, Chicago's First Presbyterian Church, Walt Disney Concert Hall and churches and missions in the San Francisco Bay Area. A Chanticleer Christmas is broadcast annually on over 300 affiliated public radio stations nationwide. The season continues in 2016 with Mission Road, Chanticleer's ongoing exploration of the glorious music of the mission period includes music from the Mexican and Bolivian missions. Washing of the Water, a program of spiritually inspired music ranging from Palestrina to Leonard Cohen and Paul Simon, will conclude the season in June.
