SUPER FLY, the musical based on the 1972 film directed by GorDon Parks, has taken further steps toward its Broadway debut. A casting notice has gone out from The Mottola Group and The Dodgers Developmental Lab, seeking actors for an October workshop.

The Equity casting notice calls for male singers who tap, and the workshop is scheduled for October 3rd through the 22nd. The music is described as 1970s R&B/Soul/Funk/Pop Era, written mainly by Curtis Mayfield - the composer of the film soundtrack, which indicates that the musical will pull its songs from the movie.

Bill T. Jones will choreograph and direct SUPER FLY, which features a book from Seth Zvi Rosenfeld and musical direction from Ron Melrose.

Jones is a multi-talented artist, choreographer, dancer, theater director and writer, has received major honors ranging from a 1994 MacArthur "Genius" Award to Kennedy Center Honors in 2010. He also earned a 2007 Tony Award for Best Choreography in Spring Awakening as well as an Obie Award for the show's 2006 off-Broadway run.
