The premiere reading of STUN, a new play about drag and LGBT culture, will take place at the Dramatists Guild of America this Friday, August 18.
Inspired by iconic works examining gay culture such as "The Velvet Rage" and "Paris is Burning," Stun is a new play by Jordan Stovall (Manager of Creative Affairs, Dramatists Guild) being presented in its entirety to the public for the first time after development at the Hamilton Project at the Barn Arts Collective in Tremont, Maine.
The story follows four drag personas - Charmaine, Honey Pot, Misty Tension, and Chastity, all of the house D. Luxe - as they navigate the polarizing labyrinth of family, approval, and self-actualization.
The play features the talents of Andrew Schoomaker (drag name Andy Starling), Emmanuel Wilson (drag name Chicken Bitches), Clay Sasser, and Darren Polito, with direction by Mitchell Walker.
This reading will also be a fundraiser for the LGBTQ Homeless Youth Project. Donations will be accepted throughout the evening, though are not mandatory to attend.
The reading is set for Friday, August 18 from 7:30pm to 9:30pm in The Mary Rodgers Room at Dramatists Guild of America, 1501 Broadway, Suite 710, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10036. Free RSVPs can be made at form.jotform.com/71765384428163. Space is extremely limited.
