Wayne Brady recently surprised the KINKY BOOTS audience once again with a special rap during curtain call, based on word suggestions for the audience- and all to benefit BC/EFA. Check out the video!
Emmy Award-winner and Grammy Award nominee Wayne Brady took over the role of Lola last week, November 21, 2015, from Tony Award-winner Billy Porter, who played over 800 performances in the role.
Porter made a touching speech during his final curtain call and passed off the iconic red boots to his successor. "I promised myself at the beginning of this particular journey that I would be in the moment," Porter said. "Experience it fully, enjoy it, feel it without judgement or fear, without shame or apology. I've waited all my life for this moment." Check out the video here (and try not to cry!)!
Now in its third smash year, Kinky Boots is also currently touring in the country on its First National Tour, and recently opened a production in Toronto in June. The show opened in the West End in September 2015 at London's Adelphi Theatre, and has also announced an Australian production set to open in October 2016.
KINKY BOOTS tells the uplifting and heartwarming tale of Charlie Price, a young man reluctantly taking over his family's struggling business. Charlie meets and finds inspiration in Lola and together, the unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible... and discovers that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world.
The winner of six 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Kinky Boots features a Tony Award-winning score by Cyndi Lauper, a book by Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein, and direction and choreography by Tony Award- winner Jerry Mitchell. The Grammy Award-winning Original Broadway Cast Recording of Kinky Boots is available on Sony Masterworks Broadway.
