Last month, twenty of the brightest talents on Broadway were featured in Broadway Sings Bruno Mars, the latest concert in the Broadway Sings series. The tribute series takes the music of well-known music icons and creates new, unique arrangements and orchestrations by twisting the style to fit the strength of the performer. Previous concerts have included Adele, Stevie Wonder, and Justin Timberlake; this November, producer Corey Mach (Godspell, Wicked) and music director Joshua Stephen Kartes will present Broadway Sings Sara Bareilles.?
Performers included Tony Winner Lena Hall (Hedwig), Nick Rashad Burroughs (Kinky Boots), Gerard Canonico (American Idiot), Max Chernin (Brooklynite), Corey Cott (Gigi), Matt DeAngelis (Hair), Ariana DeBose (Hamilton), Jay Armstrong Johnson (On the Town), Leigh Ann Larkin (A Little Night Music), Alison Luff (Matilda the Musical), Corey Mach (Godspell),Abby Mueller (Kinky Boots), Ciara Renée (Pippin), Gabrielle Reid (Beautiful), Zak Resnick (Mamma Mia!), Joey Taranto (Kinky Boots), Marisha Wallace (Something Rotten), Michael Wartella (Wicked), Alan Wiggins (The Lion King), Devon Lavinia Yates, and Jared Zirilli (Lysistrata Jones).
The concert, performed at Highline Ballroom and The Cutting Room, featured cover songs to celebrate the pop singer's iconic songs, including "Uptown Funk", "Grenade", "When I Was Your Man", and "Just the Way You Are".
