As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Disney might bring the beloved characters from 1984's THE MUPPETS TAKE MANHATTAN to the Great White Way. The New York Post's Michael Riedel reports that the Walt Disney Company, which has had the rights to the Muppets since 2004, is "exploring the possibility" of a Muppet musical coming to one of Jujamcyn's five theaters.
Over the years, the Muppets welcomed plenty of Broadway guests and featured many Broadway tunes. In honor of today's news, BroadwayWorld brings you a roundup of some of our favorites!
The 1984 musical comedy, directed by Frank Oz, was the third of a series of live-action musical feature films starring Jim Henson's Muppets. The film was produced by Henson Associates and TriStar Pictures, and was filmed on location in New York City during the summer of 1983. The movie featured music by Ralph Burns and Jeff Moss and even included cameo appearances from Sesame Street's Cookie Monster, Ernie and Bert.
