STAGE TUBE: Sneak Peek at Comedian Nancy Redman in Stand Up Performance

Actress/writer/comedian NANCY REDMAN joins forces with director AUSTIN PENDLETON for their third collaboration on the United Solo Theatre Festival: "The Doctor Is Not In," a sci-fi comedy exploring the hypocrisy of Hippocrates, October 25 at 9 PM at Theater Row, 410 West 42nd Street.

The presentation is part of United Solo's ENCORE, a series that marks productions with solo artists who performed successfully at the Festival in the past. Indeed, Nancy Redman received the United Solo's "Best Stand-Up Award" in 2012 for her "EMERGENCY A La Carte," in which "a comedian dies and finds that death is her toughest audience," and the Best Comedian Award in 2011 for her "CLUTTER: I'm Saving My Life and It's Killing Me." Austin Pendleton is a three-time recipient of the United Solo Best Directing Award, receiving his first for Redman's "CLUTTER." Their happy collaboration continues, with Redman remarking "I am thrilled to have my new one-woman play directed again by Austin Pendleton!"

The offbeat Redman, called part Lucille Ball, part Groucho Marx, has rightfully earned a place in the top echelon of the nation's comedians. Verbally and physically dexterous, her style is a hilarious explosion of silly voices, eccentric characters and sharp one liners. The native New Yorker has been featured on numerous TV shows, including theOprah Winfrey Show; is a two-time prize winner on America's Funniest People; and "warmed up" audiences for The Golden Girls, Designing Women, and other hit TV shows. She was a regular performer for years at NYC's Dangerfield's and the Laugh Factory, and on the West Coast in L.A.'s. Laugh Factory and Comedy Store. On stage she has opened for Jackie Mason, Charo, Chubby Checker and Soupy Sales, who pronounced her simply "the funniest white woman in the world!" Her two one-woman shows, "EMERGENCY A La Carte" and "CLUTTER," were premiered on the United Solo Festival and have been seen around the country; most recently Redman delighted audiences with "CLUTTER" for the Jewish Ensemble Theatre in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Redman considers that her personal career highlight was entertaining troops in the nation of Bahrain at the time of the first Gulf War.

Director Austin Pendleton is an actor/playwright/director, highly regarded and successful in all areas. His many accolades include an Obie for his direction of "Three Sisters" at Classic Stage Company (where he also directed the 2012 "Ivanov"), and a 2007 Drama Desk Award for "A Renaissance Man of the American Theatre". He directed the Broadway production of "The Little Foxes" with Elizabeth Taylor, the world premieres of "Say Goodnight, Gracie"; "The Runner Stumbles"; and "Toys in the Attic" at the Pearl Theatre and Williamstown Theatre Festival, and was Artistic Director of The Circle Repertory Theatre in NY. As an actor, Pendleton has given standout performances in dozens of plays on and off-Broadway, and in the films Finding Nemo, A Beautiful Mind, Armistad, Guarding Tess, My Cousin Vinny, and many more. His upcoming projects include directing the summer production of "Between Riverside and Crazy" at the Atlantic Theatre; appearing in "Straight White Men" at The Public Theater in a November/December run; and returning to Classic Stage Company to direct "Hamlet" in January 2015.
