Cher, mother of DANCING WITH THE STARS most recently eliminated contestant Chaz Bono, phoned into Anderson Cooper's daytime talk show to talk about her feelings toward the way her son was treated by the show's judges. Bono was a guest on Cooper's show during the phone call.
"I just thought they were rude," Cher, 65, told Cooper in the episode, which will be airing on Tuesday, November 1. "And it was gratuitous rudeness, and I was just pissed off. I was just really upset. Not that Chaz was voted off, but that they were so disrespectful."
The singer was particularly upset with DWTS' judge Bruno Tonioli's who referred to Bono as a "penquin" during his comments on last Monday night's show. Both Bono and his dancing partner Lacey Schwimmer were offended by the comments.
Bono, 42, was the show's first transgender contestant. Cooper asked Cher about her reaction to Bono's decision to become a male. "As a mom, you have a child, and then all of a sudden you have a different child," she explained to Cooper. "But you have the same child. And so, it's very hard to kind of twist your mind around to the adjustment. But then, when you look at it and you're around your child, you just think, no difference. Same child, different wrapping."
