The recently crowned World Loopstation Champion and acclaimed British beatboxer SHLOMO is about to take the UK on a mad one-man musical mashup, using nothing but his mouth, a microphone and a loop sampler, kicking off on Monday 7 February 2011 at Kingston's Rose Theatre.
After his previous collaborations with Bjork, Jarvis Cocker, Imogen Heap and DJ Yoda, SHLOMO has set himself a new challenge during the tour: in each town he will create a spontaneous collaboration with a local artist, preferably a stranger. Artists are being recommended to SHLOMO by fans through his blog and social networks. Your suggestions are needed! More details: shlo.co.uk/blog
SHLOMO starts his MOUTHTRONICA tour riding high from a recent trip to LA where he was crowned World Champion at the first ever BOSS World Loopstation Championships, beating competition from twelve other national looping champions from around the world. SHLOMO's breathtaking skills with the loop pedal, as seen on BBC2's coverage of Glastonbury, will be showcased to full effect in his new one-man show MOUTHTRONICA.
MOUTHTRONICA mixes storytelling, live-looping and high-energy genre-hopping human beatboxing. SHLOMO uses his voice to create original soundscapes ranging from experimental vocal acrobatics to jaw-dropping one-man renditions of classic tunes. Through MOUTHTRONICA, SHLOMO tells his unique story, going right back to when he was 3 years old, playing Arabic drums and belly dancing at his Iraqi-Jewish grandmother's parties.
SHLOMO will be running an exclusive beatbox masterclass at each venue, giving the public the chance to find out some of beatboxing's trade secrets.
"The kid's good. Jaw-droppingly good." The Guardian
"Brilliant soulful vocal gymnastics." Evening Standard
SHLOMO is known for leading his own beatbox troupe The Vocal Orchestra, and for his experimental collaborations with a diverse range of artists such as Martha Wainwright, Hexstatic, Portico Quartet, and Mad Professor. SHLOMO's musical story takes in his training in classical percussion and jazz drums, studying astrophysics, and beatboxing in the Arctic and on the Jools Holland show. He is also an artist in residence at London's Southbank Centre.
"He's like a one-man Hollywood action film soundtrack" The Times
"Master of the fine art of beatboxing" The Independent
