Hello and welcome to BWW's ON THIS DAY Series! Please read along as, each day, we celebrate birthdays, shows' openings and all kinds of theatrical events that have previously happened on this date.
Today happens to be the birthday of actress Sarah-Jane Potts, who is probably best-known for her prominent role in "Kinky Boots" - the movie on which Harvey Fierstein and Cyndie Lauper based their Tony Award-winning musical. "Kinky Boots", whose tag line was "How far would you go to save the family business?" tells of a failing shoe business's turn from men's dress shoes to customised boots for drag queens. Though Potts and the original movie are British, the musical first found success on Broadway before heading to the West End.
To celebrate, here's a little clip of Potts and her co-star, Joel Edgerton, as her character, Lauren, reveals what may prove to be a valuable skill.
Happy birthday, Sarah-Jane!
