Hello and welcome to BWW's ON THIS DAY Series! Please read along as, each day, we celebrate birthdays, shows' openings and all kinds of theatrical events that have happened on this date.
Today is the birthday of British actress Lara Pulver. Though she's now better known for her television work, having starred in the BBC's "Robin Hood" and alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in "Sherlock", Pulver made a name for herself in the West End's musical theatre scene.
She's particularly well-known for her performances of Jason Robert Brown's work. Pulver seems to navigate Brown's tricky (and wonderful!) songs with ease and received great accolades for her portrayal of Cathy Hiatt in the Menier Chocolate Factory's "The Last Five Years" and was nominated for an Olivier for playing Lucille Frank in "Parade" at the Donmar Warehouse - a role which she later reprised in Los Angles.
More recently, though, Pulver played Louise in the Chichester Festival Theatre's production of "Gypsy", which went on to transfer to the West End - and for which she was awarded an Olivier for Best Supporting Actress.
Happy birthday, Lara!
