In honor of the first preview of On Your Feet!, Tyler Mount welcomed Jerry Mitchell for the latest episode of his web series, THE TYLER MOUNT VLOG. Below, watch the Broadway legend talk about his first job, reveal his guilty pleasure, and of course, reiterate the importance of living a full-out life!
Jerry Mitchell received the Tony Award in recognition of his choreography for the 2013 Tony-winning Best Musical KINKY BOOTS, for which he was also nominated as director. In the 35 preceding years, Jerry has choreographed more than 50 Broadway, Off-Broadway, West End and touring productions, including the following for Broadway: YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN, THE FULL MONTY (Tony nomination), THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, HAIRSPRAY (Tony nom.), GYPSY, NEVER GONNA DANCE (Tony nom.), DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS (Tony nom.), LA CAGE AUX FOLLES (Tony Award), LEGALLY BLONDE (Tony nom., also directed), CATCH ME IF YOU CAN. On the West End: LOVE NEVER DIES and DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS (Olivier Award nomination, also directed). Twenty-five years ago, Jerry conceived and created BROADWAY BARES, a comedy burlesque show performed annually for the charity Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, of which he continues to serve as executive producer. Next up: GOTTA DANCE, having its world premiere in Chicago this winter.
ON YOUR FEET!, the new Broadway musical based on the life story of seven-time GRAMMY winning international superstar Gloria Estefan and her husband, nineteen-time GRAMMY winning producer-musician-entrepreneur Emilio Estefan, is currently in previews and opens on Broadway on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the Marquis Theatre.
The musical, directed by two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Hairspray) and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, Memphis) with an original book by Academy Award winnerAlexander Dinelaris (Birdman, The Bodyguard Musical), lands on Broadway following a world premiere summer engagement at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago.
ON YOUR FEET! is a new Broadway musical that follows the Estefans' journey to superstardom, set to their chart-topping, smash hits, including "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You," "Conga," "1-2-3," "Get On Your Feet," "Mi Tierra," Don't Want To Lose You Now," and "Reach," in addition to an original song written by Gloria and her daughter Emily Estefan.
