Playing on Air is a 53-minute public radio program that features two or three short stage plays performed and recorded for radio. Each episode presents plays that work together to form a thematically cohesive whole. Every 10 to 20minute play is immediately followed by an interview with its playwright, director or cast.

Playing on Air is the brainchild of its producer and host, Claudia Catania. After stints as an actress and then as Associate Publisher of Applause Theatre & Cinema books; Claudia was Executive Producer of The New Group, a notforprofit offBroadway theater company, from 1993 to 1999. There she produced 16 plays including Mike Leigh's Ecstasy and Kenneth Lonergan's This is Our Youth.
