On last night's San Diego round of auditions on Fox's AMERICAN IDOL, actor Jim Carrey's daughter, Jane Carrey was among the 1,000's of hopeful contestants. The 24-year-old explained to viewers that she has been singing as long as she could remember and was encouraged by her father to audition for the show.
"It was definitely fun growing up with him as a father," shared Jane Carrey. "He's definitely not the most extravagant celebrity so it's been fairly normal. Fairly!"
Asked about whether she believed having a famous celebrity as a father helped her chances of success on the show, she replied, "The last name definitely helps and hurts. I feel like there is this pressure to maybe be better. If I make it somewhere it runs the risk of people saying, 'You're only here because of this'."
As her audition song, Jane chose 'Something To Talk About'. The judges were so impressed with her performance, they voted unanimously to send her on to the Hollywood round of auditions.
After being awarded the coveted 'golden ticket' to Hollywood, the performer called her father who enthusiastically raved, "She's so wonderful and amazing to me, I can't wait for the world to see... This is going to be an exciting year."
Auditions for the singing competition will continue this Wednesday night at 8/7c on the Fox network.
