The music video for the new version of Green Day's platinum single "21 Guns," featuring the cast of AMERICAN IDIOT, is now available on www.AmericanIdiotonBroadway.com, following its exclusive premiere on AOL Music on February 1, 2010. The cast performed the song with Green Day on the GRAMMY® Awards, where the band won the "Best Rock Album" GRAMMY® for 21st Century Breakdown, on Sunday, January 31, 2010.
Both the song and video feature the members of Green Day, singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool, recording in the studio with the cast of AMERICAN IDIOT - the stage version of Green Day's chart-topping 2004 album that is moving to Broadway where it begins previews on March 24, 2010 and opens on April 20, 2010. The video was shot by Doug Hamilton.
This new version of "21 Guns", arranged by Tom Kitt, was recorded at Green Day's studio in Oakland, CA and produced by Armstrong. It mirrors the song's arrangement in the stage production, with the addition of vocals by Armstrong. Prominently featured on the track from the AMERICAN IDIOT cast are John Gallagher, Jr., who won a Tony Award in 2007 for Spring Awakening, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Christina Sajous, and Mary Faber.
AMERICAN IDIOT follows the exhilarating journey of a new generation of young Americans as they struggle to find meaning in a post 9/11 world, borne along by Green Day's electrifying score. The musical includes every song from the two-time GRAMMY® Award-winning album American Idiot, as well as several songs from the band's GRAMMY® Award-winning new release, 21st Century Breakdown, such as "21 Guns."
