Producers have released the exclusive trailer for the Los Angeles revival of bare, produced by glory|struck productions this fall at Downtown Los Angeles' historic Hayworth Theatre. The trailer was directed and edited by Nanea Miyata. Check it out below!
This electrifying rock musical will star Payson Lewis (NBC's "The Sing Off", "Victorious"), Jonah Platt ("The Office"), Lindsay Pearce ("Glee", "The Glee Project"), Katie Stevens (FOX's "American Idol"), Nathan Parrett (NBC's "The Voice"), Caitlin Ary, Kelsey Hainlen, Casey Hayden, Christopher Higgins, Reesa Ishiyama, Harrison Meloeny and Katherine Washington.
Additionally, producers are thrilled to reveal that original bare cast members Stephanie Andersen and John Griffin will return to the show alongside Alissa-Nicole Koblentz as the adult figures.
With pulsing rock music at its core, this provocative piece focuses on the coming-of-age of a group of high school seniors at a co-ed Catholic boarding school, each struggling to define themselves in the face of their relationships, sexuality and religion.
A story of discovery, acceptance and love, bare centers on the clandestine relationship between two roommates in a well-locked dorm room: charismatic, golden-boy Jason and sensitive, soulful Peter. As the pair navigates adolescence, we see the consequences of secrecy unravel though their eyes and those around them: Nadia, Jason's sardonic twin sister, a hard-edged outsider; the attention-prone Ivy, who shamelessly pursues her obsession with Jason; and forlorn Matt, whose affections for Ivy are repeatedly rebuffed.
Performances begin September 5th with a September 6th opening night at the Hayworth Theatre. Tickets are available now at www.plays411.com/bare.
This will not be the revised incarnation of the musical that was recently seen Off-Broadway; the Los Angeles revival will preserve the authors' original vision featuring the music of Damon Intrabartolo with book and lyrics by Jon Hartmere.
bare is produced for glory|struck by Topher Rhys and Jamie Lee Barnard, who recently brought the wildly successful concert-engagement of Spring Awakening to Los Angeles in support of Love is Louder, and previously developed Glory Days in Concert and the 2009 bare workshop to benefit It Gets Better and The Trevor Project, respectively.
The rock-infused presentation will be directed by noted Southern California director Calvin Remsberg (Sweeney Todd, TITANIC, Parade, Sunday in the Park with George, Urinetown, Into the Woods; the LA premieres of Glory Days and F*cking Men), with musical direction and music production by Elmo Zapp (Spring Awakening in Concert).
Jen Oundjian, whose work has been seen on The Oprah Winfrey Show, America's Got Talent, and Dancing with the Stars, will choreograph the show.
Other key team members include associate musical director Andrew Orbison, associate music production by Alex Seller, and co-producers Stephanie Lazard and Elmo Zapp.
Deemed a "new, exciting and effective brand of theater," glory|struck creates music-driven art that aligns poignant narratives with social issues. Through compelling stories and identifiable characters, their mission is to bring theatre back to our concert-loving roots - vibrant, guitar-heavy and loud - while using the music and its message to inspire collective action.
With timeless themes of acceptance, tolerance and equality, the book and music of bare are increasingly relevant today. "The message of the show is to find and be yourself and the struggle that we all go through to present our authentic self to the world," describes author Jon Hartmere.
bare had its world premiere at the Hudson Theater in Los Angeles, CA, where it began performances Oct. 14, 2000, and ran through Feb. 25, 2001. Following the Los Angeles production, bare began its run at the American Theatre of Actors (Chernuchin Theatre) March 25, 2004. It opened April 19, 2004, and played through May 27, 2004. bare has since had more than 100 productions worldwide.
