In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Director Adam Shankman discussed what it took to transform the Broadway musical Rock of Ages into a full-length feature film. Shankman also chats about his all-star cast which includes Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Julianne Hough, Malin Akerman and Tom Cruise.
Recalling the first time he heard the film's star Tom Cruise sing the director commented, “He sounded amazing. And within one lesson his range broadened as he opened up. I opened the door, and I was like a 15-year-old girl, I was screaming and jumping up and down and going, ‘Oh my god this is going to work.’ ” Check out the interview below!
New Line Cinema's adaptation of the smash hit Broadway musical ROCK OF AGES hits theaters today, June 15th. Shankman directs "Rock of Ages" from a screenplay by Justin Theroux and Chris D'Arienzo and Allan Loeb, based on D'Arienzo's musical of the same name. The film is being produced by Matthew Weaver, Scott Prisand, Carl Levin, Tobey Maguire, Garrett Grant and Jennifer Gibgot, with Toby Emmerich, Richard Brener, Michael Disco, Samuel J. Brown, Hillary Butorac Weaver, Janet Billig Rich, Shankman and D'Arienzo serving as executive producers.
Rounding out the "Rock of Ages" creative team are director of photography Bojan Bazelli ("Hairspray"), production designer Jon Hutman ("It's Complicated"), editor Emma E.
